Herbs add many sensory pleasures to everyday life from alluring aromas and tasty tidbits to soothing and/or stimulating herbal blends—and then there is the great delight of cultivating these herbal allies and using them!
Creating herbal magic is a daily occurrence for me—and in this class I will share—and hopefully inspire you to make some of my favorite concoctions as well as invent your own! Herbal alchemy is a real thing: learn the difference between elixirs, electuaries, oxymels and shrubs and how they work; you will create your own version with local honey, organic apple cider vinegar and fresh herbs.
See how simple it is to prepare herbal finishing salts and sugars—we will make magic dusts and sprinkles to take home using fresh and dried botanicals.
Savory pastes are condiments that I always have on hand since they lend immediate flavor to any dish and are most often medicinal to boot; we will taste some samples and prepare one to go.
Where would we be without at least one herbal confection?! We’ll make some sugar plums from dried fruits, nuts and spices which I personally find ethereal.
I couldn’t let you get away without sipping at least one or two mocktails! We’ll infuse seasonal herbs with local ingredients to make some thirst-quenching summer sippers. This class will pique your creative imagination so that you will feel confident to create your own herbal delights.
You will need to bring the following items to attend this class: your favorite chef and paring knives, garden pruners or scissors for harvesting herbs, wooden cutting board, go-cup or jar to drink from, basket or box to carry your creations home.
