ABOUT ABOUT

SOLD OUT!

Join us as we celebrate the life American folksinger and songwriter John Prine (1946-2020) during a tribute concert on Saturday, June 8th at the Ozark Folk Center's Ozark Highlands Theater in Mountain View, Arkansas.  Enjoy a memorable evening of songs and stories with John's son Tommy Prine and long-time friend and multi-platinum songwriter Keith Sykes.  Sponsored by Stone Bank of Stone County, Ark.

John Prine in Mountain View: In 1960, John performed for his first audience at a local fishing resort near the White River in Mountain View when he was just 14 years-old. John returned often, usually with friends; sometimes multiple times a year until his passing. He liked the quaint old-fashioned town and its close-knit community. He spent time fishing the river, playing music, and spending time with the friends & fellow songwriters he often brought along. Over the years, he became known for his kindness, humor, and generousity and made a lasting impression on locals in Mountain View - including musicians and staff at the Ozark Folk Center.

In 2021, some of John's ashes were placed in the White River, along with roses, by friends who loved him and spent with in the Ozark hills of Mountain View.  Today, we keep John's songs in our hearts and on our stages. We look forward to honoring John's legacy along with his family, friends, and fellow admirers at the Folk Center on June 8th.

About the guest stars:

Keith Sykes is an American singer-songwriter, musician and record producer. More than 100 of Sykes' songs have been recorded by John Prine, Rosanne Cash, The Judds, Jerry Jeff Walker, and George Thorogood, though he may be best known for co-writing "Volcano", the title track of Jimmy Buffett's 1979 album.

Sykes has released at least fifteen albums and his songs have sold more than 25 million copies worldwide.  He owns and operates a recording studio, The Woodshed, in Memphis, TN.

Tommy Prine's debut album This Far South, released in 2023, is a long-awaited introduction and testimony to Prine’s 20’s and the loss, love, and growth that has defined them. Co-produced by close friend and kindred musical spirit, Ruston Kelly, and beloved Nashville engineer and producer, Gena Johnson, the album is rich and dynamic from cathartic jams to nostalgic storytelling.

“I feel like I've learned more about myself in the last year and a half than I ever have in my life,” Prine says. “And I think that speaks a lot to doing something that I'm passionate about. I love and respect the craft. Just hitting the road and doing what so many people before me have done and will continue to do, it's really resonated with me. I think it's transformed me into the person that I am meant to be.”
